Uemura Tomoya (植村朋哉), known mononymously as Tomoya (토모야), is a Japanese singer-songwriter and dancer under JYP Entertainment. He is a member of the boy group NEXZ, with the positions of leader, vocalist and dancer.
Uemura Tomoya was born in Munakata City in Fukuoka, Japan on January 19, 2006. His family includes his parents, two sisters, two nephews and a family cat.
Tomoya a started taking dance lessons at 4 years old and participated in various dance competitions.[1] After placing Best 4 in the 2019 World Dance Competition during his 2nd year of middle school, he was contacted by JYP Entertainment's casting team. He auditioned in May 2019 and became a trainee on September 23, 2019, at the age of 13.
He trained for about 2 years and 7 months before being sent to LA CAMP for Nizi Project Season 2 auditions round in November 2021, after winning first place in the monthly evaluation. He managed to pass the audition and participated as a contestant on Nizi Project Season 2. After finishing first in the finale of the show, it was confirmed that Tomoya would debut as a member of the boy group NEXZ.[2]
2024 – present: NEXZ
Tomoya debuted as the leader of NEXZ on May 20, 2024 with the single album, Ride the Vibe.
